The rich dark rosewood carving and inlay is being practiced for many centuries in Karnataka.
The craft has enjoyed the patronage of the Maharajas of Mysore.The rosewood inlay is a craft
practiced in Mysore and found nowhere else in the world. The craftsman scoop the flat surface
of the rosewood in the desired deigns and natural woods of different colors are inlaid in the hollow
spaces to form beautiful landscapes, Animals, birds and mythological scenes. The end product
is to be seen to be belived. It looks just like a painting until it is observed at close quarters to make
out that it is made of wood and nothing but wood.
The array also includes a range of furnitures which are made from Rosewood and the same art of inlay
work is being reproduced.
